GTK ArcGIS Chapter 8 Querying data

Let’s go shopping for a house in Redlands as if Jack Dangermond himself had just hired us to work at ESRI. We want a house on a corner lot (sweet!), three bedrooms and we’re willing to spend $175,000 (signing bonus?). Either real estate prices in this database are really old (1980's) or the real estate bubble burst baddly in Redlands.

We started with a map of streets and of land parcels shaded by for sale or nor for sale.
  • used identify tool
  • interactively selected corner parcels for sale using selection tool
  • in attribute field, added hyperlink to photo of house
  • viewed attribute table for parcels, then just for selected records
  • queried by attributes ((for sale "status" ='y' ), ("BD_RMS"='3') and ("Sale_Price"=<175000)
  • created a basic report

The report generating capabilities built into ArcGIS are very limited. Fortunately, it comes with a version of Crystal Reports that allows creating more robust reports.
